UPSC is more about conceptual clarity than just mugging up, says Additional Collector Garima Agarwal

KARIMNAGAR: Becoming an IAS officer is what most students aspire for. Inspiration, hard work, proper guidance and the right strategy with appropriate study material are the key to successful preparations.

Before one should opt for IAS, it is also important to know why one is opting for the same because that will sail the candidate through the long and turbulent journey of the UPSC civil services examination.

“The reason can be anything but should be strong enough to keep you away from distractions. As the exam is extremely competitive, so it requires a high amount of determination,” said Additional Collector Garima Agarwal. Participating at an awareness programme on Civil Services Examination conducted by SRR government arts and science college in Karimnagar town on Saturday (February 4, 2023), She said that aspirants should devote quality time towards preparation and should add to their knowledge base by thoroughly preparing various subjects including Geography, History, Economy and Polity which are basic components of Civil Services Examinations.

She said that continuous revisions and in-depth study is important for every examination and aspirants often do not realise that conceptual clarity around various topics is crucial. They require to be receptive to increasing the thirst for knowledge than just mugging up the given topics and points around the syllabus, she maintained.

Md Akbaruddin Shoeb, UPSC Examinations Coach, informed the aspirants that descriptive skills in the civil services exam play a critical role in performing well and in this regard aspirants need to develop these skills in order to crack the examination. He further appealed to the Aspirants to prepare in advance as they have sufficient time period at their disposal as time is the essence of any competitive Examination. Desire, perseverance, and consistency are the qualities of a good civil services aspirant.

College principal Dr K Ramakrishna said that the Civil services job gives an ample opportunity to realize personal and professional goals. Intelligence Inspector Krishna apprised the aspirants about the various stages and patterns of the Examination including Prelims, Mains and Interviews. He further highlighted the role of the Library and the internet in collecting quality study material for the Examination.
