Two child marriages stopped in Karimnagar

KARIMNAGAR: The ICDS and Childline authorities have stopped two child marriages separately at Rekurthi Budagajangala colony in Karimnagar town and Srinivasnagar village of Manakondur mandal on Tuesday.

Following the information received by the Childline 1098 number, the ICDS, revenue, police, Childline authorities rushed to the spot and stopped the marriages by counselling separately. CDPO Karimnagar rural K Sabitha, CDPO Karimnagar urban Uma Rani, Childline coordinator Sampath, DCPO Shantha, Manakondur CI Krishna Reddy and others counselled the parents of the minor girls and stopped the marriage.

Educating the parents about the penal action for conducting the marriage of girl below 18 years of age, they informed the government had increased the marriage age of girl from 18 to 21 years. The authorities had also visited the school where the girls were studying and informed the authorities to continue their education. They also collected a consent letter from the parents stating that they would perform the marriage of their daughters only after attaining the legal age of marriage.

On this occasion, the authorities had informed the people to dial childline number 1098 about the child marriages and other violent acts against the children and adolescent girls.
