TS govt to encourage sports in rural areas as part of Palle Pragathi programme, says TS Planning board vice chairman

KARIMNAGAR: Buoyed over the successful transformation of the villages with the implementation of the Palle Pragathi programme in the Telangana state, the state government is contemplating to encourage rural sports in the villages by providing necessary infrastructure facilities such as creating grounds for playing rural sports such as Kabaddi, Volley-ball, Kho-Kho etc.
Announcing this at the closing ceremony of the two-day rural sports meet organised by the Karimnagar District Cooperative Central bank at Ambedkar stadium in Karimnagar town on Monday, Telangana state planning board vice chairman B Vinod Kumar said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was planning to encourage sports in the rural areas by providing infrastructure to play the rural sports. Accordingly, the government would create the grounds to play the games and provide necessary sports kits also, he stated.
Stating that the villages were being transformed with the implementation of Palle Pragathi programme, he said that there was steady increase of green coverage in the villages with the plantation of saplings, taking up cleanliness drive, garbage dumping yards, laying of roads, construction of Vaikunta damams (crematoriums) etc. He said that the government would soon announce encouragement of rural sports in the villages to produce legendary sportspersons to compete in national and international events.
Hoping that the country would progress to host the Olympics games after another 10 to 15 years, he said that the Hyderabad city would definitely host several Olympics games and called upon the rural youth to aim to participate in the Olympics and win medals to the country. He also informed the budding sportspersons to take up sports as a profession along with their regular career.
On this occasion, Mr Vinod Kumar appreciated the Karimnagar DCCB for organising the rural sports meet as part of its centenary celebrations and encouraging sports among the youth. Quoting the example of foreigners allocating more funding for transforming their children as sportspersons, he said that the culture was also being developed in the country with the parents giving importance for the sports to their wards. He said that the sportspersons lead a disciplined life.
Mr Konduru Ravinder Rao, chairman NAFSCOB, TSCAB and Karimnagar DCCB, has assured to take necessary measures for providing sports quota in the recruitment process in the cooperative banks by talking to the authorities concerned. He also said that they would also examine about the possibility of sponsoring the talented sportsperson for their national and international events.
Stating that the Karimnagar DCCB had emerged number one cooperative bank on several aspects including opening bank accounts to the school students, he also urged the rural youth to join the cooperative bank fold and avail several benefits. Mayor Y Sunil Rao, DCCB vice chairman P Ramesh, CEO N Satyanarayana Rao, directors Swamy Reddy, P Krishna Prasad, general managers B Sridhar and Md Riazuddin and DGM Satya Prasad and others were also present.
