As per the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, to become a national party, the BRS needs to secure at least six per cent of the total votes in Lok Sabha elections or Assembly elections in four states, besides winning at least four seats in the Lok Sabha from any of these states

Till then it remains as a regional party only

 

KARIMNAGAR: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which was founded with the sole purpose of achieving a separate Telangana state on April 27, 2001, has now emerged as the national party as the ‘Bharath Rashtra Samithi’ (BRS).

Accordingly, the party extended state general body passed a unanimous resolution changing the name of the party to BRS. TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao signed the resolution copy changing the name of the party to BRS. The party leaders led by TS Planning Board Vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar would submit the same to the Election Commission of India on Thursday (October 6, 2022).

The resolution reads: “The TRS in its state general body meeting dated October 5, 2022, has passed a resolution to change the name of the party from the TRS to BRS. To that effect, necessary amendments to the party Constitution have also been made in the same meeting. The resolution and amended party constitution is submitted”.

The meeting was attended by former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Tamil Nadu’s VCK party leaders and MP Thirumavalan, the farmers’ leaders and others. Soon after the announcement of the BRS, the party rank and file in the entire Telangana state celebrated by bursting fireworks and taking out processions.

Despite the change of name, the status of K Chandrasekhar Rao’s party is still that of a regional party.
