Tributes paid to Babu Jagjivan Ram

KARIMNAGAR: Alphores educational institutions chairman V Narender Reddy  paid tributes to freedom fighter and former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 116th birth anniversary.

Mr Reddy along with the students paid floral tributes to the portrait of Jagjivan Ram at Alphores e-techno school in Kothapalli on the outskirts of Karimnagar town on Wednesday. On this occasion, he said that Jagjivan Ram, a prominent Dalit leader and freedom fighter fought for the uplift of downtrodden.

He was a Cabinet Minister for 35 years and held several key portfolios. As Food and Agriculture Minister, he is credited with the Green Revolution, and as Defence Minister he led India to victory in the historic 1971 war against Pakistan which saw the birth of Bangladesh.
