PEDDAPALLI:  Tension prevailed at NTPC Ramagundam following the flash strike launched by the Contract labourers demanding fulfilment of the demands, which were reportedly accepted by the management, on Monday (August 22).

At least seven CISF personnel and a contract labourer were injured in the stone pelting and baton charge resorted by the CISF personnel.

Joint Action Committee of the Contract Labour Union resorted to an illegal flash strike at gate No.2 of NTPC Ramagundam on Monday alleging non-implementation of their demands which were agreed upon as per the agreement between the contract workers and their contractors.

The agitation intensified as they tried to make an unauthorised entry into the plant but were stopped by the CISF. Some miscreants from the workers’ side started pelting stones at CISF personnel. In defence, the CISF resorted to baton charge to disperse the crowd.

In the melee, seven CISF personnel and one contract worker were injured and were immediately shifted to the NTPC Dhanwantri Hospital.

With the intervention of the CISF and NTPC management, the situation was brought under control and the agitating workers were asked to submit their demands for a detailed discussion later.

It is pertinent to mention that NTPC is a power generating and public utility company and comes under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), the official sources said and added that the strike was not permitted at NTPC in the interest of the nation to meet the power generation.
