Singareni to mine and transport daily 2.3 lakh metric tonnes of coal to meet the demand in thermal power projects
SCCL sets a target of producing 75 million tonnes of coal during the financial year 2023-24.
HYDERABAD: In order to meet the demand of thermal power stations to increase the power production following the advent of summer season and increase of power consumption, Singareni Collieries Company Limited chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar has instructed the officials to mine at least 2.3 lakh metric tonnes of coal every day and the supply of the same quantity of coal per day to various thermal projects for the ensuing four months period in this summer season.
At a review meeting with the directors and other officials at Singareni bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday, Mr Sridhar informed the authorities to remove 17 lakh cubic meters of overburden at all OCPs to increase the coal production. If the same pace of coal production and transportation continues, then it would be easy to achieve the targeted coal production of 75 million tonnes of coal during the financial year 2023-24. It may be recalled that the Singareni had set a target of producing 70 million tonnes of coal during the year 2022-23.
Stating that the consumption of power had increased considerably in the state, he stressed on the need to supply the required coal for the power generation to all the thermal power projects as per agreement made by the Singareni. He also informed the officials to expedite the pending land acquisition and forest clearances for the open cast projects. He also instructed the officials to review the progress of coal production and transportation daily-wise as per the coal belt areas.
