Singareni thermal power plant wins best water-efficient plant

PEDDAPALLI:  The Singareni Collieries Company Limited Jaipur thermal power project in Mancherial district has been conferred with the best water-efficient plant of 500 MWs capacity in the southern region by the Mission Energy foundation of Mumbai.

The award was announced on Wednesday in Mumbai. Singareni chairman and managing director N Sridhar handed over the award to Director (E&M) D Satyanarayana Rao at a programme at Singareni bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday.

The Singareni Jaipur thermal power plant was consuming only 2.3 cubic meters of water against 3 cubic meters of water for producing one megawatt of power. The central electricity authority stipulates the utilisation of 3 cubic meters of water for generating one MW of power.

The thermal power plant had also won accolades for a high concentration slurry disposal system, an effluent treatment plant for recycling and reusing the water and continuous monitoring on the utilisation of water at the plant. It had earlier won awards for the fly-ash utilisation and best operational plant by the NTPC.
