Singareni sets milestone by generating 209 MWs of solar power with commissioning of 37 MWs of plant in Kothagudem

PEDDAPALLI: The Singareni Collieries Company Limited, which has diversified into the power generation sector, has set a new milestone of generating 209 MWs of solar power with the commissioning of 37 MWs of the solar power plant in Kothagudem on Wednesday.
The Singareni had set a target of generating 300 MWs of solar power during this financial year and so far achieved 172 MWs of power. Freshly, the 37 MWs of the solar power plant was commissioned by Directors N Balaram (finance) and D Satyanarayana Rao (E&M). Chairman N Sridhar had congratulated the officials for achieving another milestone and informed them to commission the remaining solar power plants to achieve the target of 300 MWs by this year-end.
Speaking on the occasion, the Directors said that the Singareni had generated 122.3 million units of solar power till September 21, 2021. The company had saved Rs 75 crore worth of power bill and with the commissioning of the entire 300 MWs of solar power, the company would be saving Rs 120 crore worth of power bills per annum.
It may be recalled that the Singareni had decided to erect a total of 13 solar power plants with an installed capacity of 300 MWs in eight areas of the company. In the first phase, the BHEL was handed over a contract to complete solar power plants in four areas to generate 129 MW. Out of this 40 MW in RG-3, 30 MW in Manuguru, 39 MW in Yellandu and 10 MW plant in STPP area have been completed and synchronised with the grid. The remaining 10 MW solar plant erection at RG-3 would be completed in another month.
The Adani constructions company was given the contract to complete four plants in three areas with a capacity of 90 MW. This 37 MW plant would come up at Kothagudem, 28 MW at Mandamarri-A block, 15 MW at Mandamarri-B block and 10 MW at Bhupalapalli has been completed and with this Singareni has reached solar power generation of 209 MW.
The remaining 81 MWs solar plants installation during the third phase would be completed by this year-end and the work was entrusted to Adani and Novas group. The Novas group has already started the erection of a 15 MW floating power plant on the reservoir in the Singareni thermal power plant premises. The Adani group has taken up the erection of 22 megawatts plant on RG-3 open cast dump, 10 megawatts on Dorli open cast dump and 34 megawatts at Kothagudem, Chennuru.
Chairman N Sridhar was taking utmost priority for the diversification of Singareni in various other power generation sectors and emerged as the first coal company in the country to enter into the solar power generation along with thermal power.
