Rs 1.45 crore cash seized in the run-up to bypolls in Huzurabad

KARIMNAGAR: The Karimnagar district election authorities had seized a whopping Rs 1.45 crore unaccounted cash in the run-up to the Huzurabad assembly segment by-elections by the police and vigilance teams in various parts of Huzurabad segment since the issuance of election notification.

In a statement here today, District Election Officer and Collector RV Karnan said that they had seized Rs 1.45 crore cash, Rs 1.5 lakh worth 30 grams of gold, Rs 9.10 lakh worth 14 kgs of silver and Rs 5.11 lakh worth 867 litres of liquor. Similarly, they had also seized 2.21 lakh worth 66 sarees and 50 shirts and another Rs 19,750 worth 3.51 kgs of contraband ganja.

The election authorities had also instructed the bankers to provide information pertaining to the transactions of more than Rs 1 lakh made in all the banks in the district. They also informed the bankers to keep a tab on the transactions and payments through Google pay and Phone pay as there was every chance of luring the voters through cash.
