Protests marred the Farmers Day celebrations as part of Telangana state Decennial fete

KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 3, 2023: In a run-up to the State Assembly elections, the Telangana state government planned to utilize the Telangana state formation day decennial celebrations as an opportunity to show its progress on all fronts. But, on the other hand, the BRS leaders had to face the wrath of the farming community during the Famers’ day celebrations in various parts of the state on Saturday.

The ruling BRS had planned to utilize the opportunity to highlight their achievements including Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bheema, 24×7 power supply and other schemes by organising the Farmers day meetings at the Rythu Vedikas in the state. Surprisingly, the party had to face the wrath of the farmers and embarrassing moments in the Rajanna-Sircilla district represented by Minister for IT and Municipal Administration K Taraka Rama Rao.

The farmers have obstructed the conduct of Farmers day by locking the Rythu Vedika in Peddalingapur village of Illanthakunta mandal of Rajanna-Sircilla district. In Venkatapur village of Yellareddypet mandal, the BRS leaders were grilled by the farmers over non-procurement of paddy, waiver of crop loans, non-payment of compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre to the crop losses due to the unseasonal rains etc. The farmers abruptly left the meeting venue puzzling the BRS leaders.

Similar scenes were also reported in Bhuvanagiri and Nirmal districts. In Jagtial district, a farmer had dumped his paddy produce in front of Minister for Social Welfare Koppula Eshwar’s camp office in Dharmapuri temple town and lodged his protest against the state government for non-procurement of farmers produce.
