KARIMNAGAR:  Former Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar has flayed Telangana State Planning Board Vice Chairman B Vinod Kumar for realigning the National Highway number 563 measuring 130 kilometres from Jagtial to Warangal via Karimnagar for ‘selfish motive’.

Reminding that during his tenure Karimnagar MP from 2009 to 2014 he had sanctioned the NH-563, he charged that Mr Vinod Kumar had realigned the national highway by diverting the road at Kothapalli via Prathima medical college at Nagunuru to Godavarikhani road and reach Khadergudem village in Manakondur mandal.

Talking to newsmen here at the Congress party office in Karimnagar town on Tuesday (September 20, 2022), Mr Prabhakar said that the realignment of the NH-563 would be a burden on the exchequer as the cost of the project would increase with more bridges and culverts and the farmers would be displayed following the acquisition of the land for the road.

The National highway proposed by the Congress government was most viable and economically as there was not much displacement of the farmers and the road passes through Karimnagar town via a by-pass road on the outskirts, he said and added that the initial NH road was the shortest route to reach Warangal from Jagtial town. Whereas the realigned road would further increase the distance by more than 20 kilometres, he added.

Alleging that the former MP Vinod Kumar was working only for his selfish interests and not for the benefit of the people of the district, he asked why he said that the government medical college was not feasible in Karimnagar town when he had launched the agitations demanding the sanction of the college. How the medical college is feasible now and sanctioned, he questioned. He informed the Karimnagar MP and BJP state president, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, to take up the issue and ensure that the NH was taken up as per the earlier proposal without causing inconvenience to the people of the district.

He charged that the Smart City had become an ATM machine (income generating source) for the TRS rank and file in the Karimnagar town and added that the Smart City was progressing without any vision and causing several woes to the residents with narrow roads and overflowing drains etc. He also ridiculed the TRS government for including the far-away Vallampahad, Sadashivapalli and villages in the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar and not including the Sripuram colony and Bommakal, which were part of the town in the MCK. This shows the ulterior motives of the TRS leaders, he alleged.
