KOTHAGUDEM: The Badrachalam-Kothgudem police foiled the Congress legislators’ bid to visit to the Kaleshwaram Lift irrigation project and flood-affected villages in the region on Tuesday night.

The Congress legislators’ team led by CLP leader Batti Vikramarka, legislators D Sridhar Babu, Seethakka, Anvesh Reddy and MLC T Jeevan Reddy and others were arrested on Tuesday night.

Talking to newsmen at Illendu on Wednesday, Mr Vikramarka launched a scathing attack against the police’s highhandedness and illegal arrests without any reason. The police had treated the opposition leaders like ‘terrorists’. They were arrested in Badrachalam and forcibly moved into the forests and bought to Palvancha police station. Following the news of party cadres coming to the police station, they again shifted them to Illendu at midnight.

When the Congress leaders staged dharna and rasta roko, they were shifted to Singareni guest house and left without any security at midnight in an irresponsible manner, he alleged. Strongly condemning the adamant attitude of the district administration and police machinery, he asked whether the opposition do not have any right to visit the flood-affected locations in the state.

He reminded that they had informed the DGP and Chief Secretary about their visit to the Kaleshwaram project and flood-affected fields. But, they failed to make any arrangement for the Congress leaders’ delegation, he alleged. He reiterated that they would definitely visit the Kaleshwaram project and expose the irregularities in the execution of the project.

If there were no irregularities, then why the government was obstructing their visit to inspect the project, he questioned. He charged that the government was scared of the truth coming out with the visit of the opposition parties to the project site.
