Police foil Congress leaders bid to stage dharna in front of CP office by taking them into custody

Karimnagar Congress leaders planned to stage a dharna in front of the CP office demanding the police to register criminal case against Assam CM for his insulting remarks against Rahul Gandhi

KARIMNAGAR:  The Karimnagar Commissionerate of Police have made preventive arrests of majority of the Congress leaders in various parts of the district to foil their bid to stage dharna in front of the office of the Commissioner of Police in Karimnagar town on Wednesday.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, which had registered in all the police stations in the state on Tuesday against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his derogatory remarks against Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi, had given a call to stage dharnas in front the Commissioner of Police and SP offices on Wednesday demanding the police to register criminal case against the Assam CM and bring him to Telangana state.

Following the Congress party leaders planning to stage dharna in front of CP office in Karimnagar town, the police had barricaded the road. Besides, they had taken into custody the Congress leaders at their respective houses and shifted them to various police stations. Prominent among those arrested including City Congress committee president Komatireddy Narender Reddy, TPCC secretary Vaidyula Anjan Kumar, TPCC SC cell state convenor Venna Raja Mallaiah and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Narender Reddy strongly condemned the adamant attitude of the TRS government for suppressing the democratic rights of the opposition parties by resorting to illegal arrests and allowing the TRS leaders to organise dharnas and rallies. He alleged that the TRS government was using the police as private army for their selfish gains. He said that the TRS government would definitely face the wrath of the people for its undemocratic activities.
