Congress leaders locked inside party office
KARIMNAGAR: The police have foiled the Congress leaders programme to organise ‘Chalo Rajbhavan’ in Hyderabad on Thursday by taking them into preventive custody in various parts of integrated Karimnagar district.
TPCC president A Revanth Reddy had called for organising ‘Chalo Rajbhavan’ demanding the Union government to order for an inquiry into phone tapping allegations made by Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy. He alleged that the BJP government was resorting to cheap tactics of tapping the phones of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and others.
Responding to the party call, the Congress leaders in various parts of the integrated Karimnagar district were getting ready to proceed to Hyderabad in various modes of transport on Thursday morning. However, the police swung into action and arrested the Congress activists and shifted them to various police stations.
On the other hand, the Karimnagar town police have detained the Congress activists led by City Congress committee president Komatireddy Narender Reddy at the Indira Bhavan (Congress party office) in Karimnagar town. They had locked the premises and made the Congress activists remain inside the office.
Condemning the police highhandedness, City Congress president Narender Reddy demanded that the people should condemn the BJP government’s unethical practice of tapping the phones of Congress and other leaders. He said that the arrests would not prevent their agitations and would intensify further against the anti-people governments at the Centre and state.
