HYDERABAD: There could have been no better finals than the Compound Archery category both for senior Men and Women at 1st NTPC National Ranking Archery Tournament (NRAT) held at the picturesque Gachibowli stadium of Hyderabad.
At the nerve-racking finals held in the afternoon of January 9, 2022, the top two archers fought for every single point as the match was ultimately decided by the last arrow. In the Women Compound category while V Jyothi Surekha from PSPB overcome spirited Aditi Gopichand Swami from Maharashtra in solitary margin of 146-145; the Men Compound champion was decided by tie-breaker. In the Men Compound category, both Rajat Chauhan from Rajasthan and Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar from Maharashtra tied with the score of 145. Ultimately, the seasoned campaigner Rajat won with tiebreaker shot (10-9).
Similarly, in the exciting Recurve events of seniors, while Sukhchain Singh of SSCB defeated Rahul Kumar Nagarwal of SSCB with 6-2 set point in Men category; Ankita Bhakat of Jharkhand got the better of Simarjeet Kaur with margin of 6-4 set point in Women category.
What is more exciting is the emergence of new national winners who overcome stiff resistance from ace international archers of the country. They all appreciated NTPC for sponsoring such national event which helped in providing exposure of international standards. After all, NTPC aims at providing platform for emerging talent to showcase their skill.
At the closing ceremony, Mr Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of the Industries & Commerce (I&C) and Information Technology (IT) Departments of the Telangana Government; Mr A Venkateshwar Reddy, Chairman, Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS); Mr Anil Kamineni, President and other office bearers of Telangana Archery Association; Mr Mani Kant, GM (HR), NTPC-SRHQ and others presented the awards to the winners.
