NAFSCOB chairman stresses the strengthening of PACS by diversifying its activities on par with banks

KARIMNAGAR:  Mr Konduru Ravinder, Chairman of Karimnagar DCCB, TSCAB and NAFSCOB, has stressed the need for the strengthening of the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) by diversifying them into various other activities as part of the PACS into Multi-service centres (MSC).

Mr Rao was interacting with a delegation of the Andhra Pradesh state PACS CEOs, who had visited the Karimnagar DCCB as part of field exposure in Karimnagar town on Tuesday (October 11, 2022). The AP PACS CEOs delegation visited the Choppadandi PACS and inspected its successful functioning.

Explaining the reforms introduced in the Karimnagar DCCB and PACS to emerge as role models respectively in the country, the Karimnagar DCCB chairman said that they had ensured that the Karimnagar DCCB also function on par with any commercial bank by lending loans and other services to the customers. Similarly, they had also made the PACS function as extension counters of the DCCB by providing all services on par with the bank, he stated.

Stating that the Karimnagar PACS were the first in the integrated Andhra Pradesh state to launch the procurement of farmers’ produce in the year 2010, he said that the success of the procurement of farmers’ produce was later implemented throughout the Andhra Pradesh state. He said that the Karimnagar DCCB was the first to take up the computerisation of all PACS in the year 2017, which was now being replicated throughout the country by the Union Ministry of Cooperation.

He said that all the PACS in the integrated Karimnagar district provide all types of loans along with agriculture. The PACS provides loans for higher education, housing, vehicles, gold loans etc, he said that the PACS had diversified their activities by running supermarkets, petrol filling stations, RO water plants, bottling plants, rice mills, and seed processing units etc.

He said that they had set up a PACS development centre and strengthened the PACS by diversifying their activities mostly income generation schemes as part of the PACS to MSCs. He also explained the constant review of the functioning of the PACS by the respective bank managers and others.

PACS development cell resource person G Satyanarayana explained the importance of diversification of PACS into MSCs and the achievements of the Karimnagar district PACS on various fronts. Andhra Pradesh state CTI faculty member Faculty Akella Suryanarayana and others were also present.
