NABARD takes up Farm sector promotion fund project to diversify cropping patterns and double farmers’ income

KARIMNAGAR, MAY 26, 2023: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in association with the Jana Vikas Rural Development Society, voluntary organization, has launched a pilot project of diversification of the cropping pattern and provide additional income to the farmers under the Farm Sector Promotional Fund Project.

The pilot project was taken up in Mailaram, Gopalpur, Kasimpet and Sundaragiri villages of Ganneruvaram mandal by selecting 50 farmers. Already, 30 farmers have taken up cultivation of drumstick (munaga) as intercrop and reaping riches by selling drumstick fruits and leaves, which are in good demand because of his medicinal values.

NABARD Telangana regional office Deputy General Manager Sriram on Friday visited the villages to inspect the implementation of the Farm sector promotional fund project. He expressed his happiness when a farmer Rajani Reddy informed the officials that she had earned Rs 35,000 additionally by taking up drumstick along with marigold as intercrop.

The NABARD DGM said that they would sanction a food processing project under Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Enterprises (PMFME) through credit-linked capital subsidy of 35 per cent of the project cost to produce value-added projects from drumstick products. He said that the Jana Vikasa rural development society would provide the necessary technical support and assist the drumstick producing farmers. NABARD Karimnagar cluster office AGMs Jayaprakash and P Manohar Reddy, Jana Vikas rural development society secretary Pendli Sampath Kumar, representative Raju, progressive farmer couples Muthyala Ramana Reddy and Rajani, Baddam Rajani Mirdoddi Raju, Akula Santosh Kumar, Sadanandam, Swaroopa-Tirupati and others were also present.
