Municipal corporator’s gift to girl child on KTR birthday

KARIMNAGAR: In a novel initiative to end gender discrimination, a municipal corporator Mendi Srilatha Chandrashekharin Karimnagar town has announced a donation of Rs 3,116 in the name of a newly born girl child in the 44th municipal division represented by her.

Taking inspiration from Minister for IT and Municipal Administration K Taraka Rama Rao’s call to celebrate his birthday by taking up the ‘Gift A Smile’ programme, the municipal corporator announced the decision to provide financial assistance for the girl born in her division from July 24 onwards. The white ration card holders would be eligible for this scheme.

She said that she had taken a decision to save girl child in her division which was mostly dominated by slums and the majority of them belonging to Dalits, minorities and other weaker sections. She said that she would encourage the girl child by educating the parents about the assistance from the government.
