MCK diluting Re 1 funeral services in Karimnagar, allege municipal corporator and BRS leader
KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 27, 2023: Municipal Corporator belonging to the ruling BRS Kamaljit Kaur and her husband and BRS leader Sohan Singh alleged that the officials of Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar are diluting the ambitious scheme of conducting the last rites of any citizen of the city at Re 1 under the banner of ‘Antima Yatra’.
They alleged that the three dead body or mortuary freezer boxes developed technical snags and dumped them in the scrap instead of taking up repairs. Similarly, the hearse van used for conducting funeral processions also developed problems due to no proper maintenance. There are instances of van being breakdown in the middle of the procession causing embarrassment and forcing the people to carry the funeral procession on their shoulders to the crematorium.
It may be recalled that former Mayor S Ravinder Singh introduced the scheme of conducting the last rites of any citizen for only Re 1 as part of corporate social responsibility. It had won accolades from the entire country for a novel initiative. The scheme was appreciated during the outbreak of Covid-19 when people were scared to perform the last rites of the Covid victims, the MCK had performed the last rites of the deceased persons.
However, the MCK authorities were planning to dilute the ambitious scheme and deny the benefits to the deceased family members by not taking up repairs to the freezer boxes and van. They urged Collector RV Karnan to direct the MCK officials to implement the ‘Anthima Yatra’ effectively for the benefit of all sections of society.
