KARIMNAGAR: Rich tributes were paid to freedom fighter and veteran of Telangana movement Konda Laxman Bapuji on the occasion of his ninth death anniversary by garlanding his statue in Karimnagar town on Tuesday.
Mayor Y Sunil Rao garlanded the statue of Bapuji and paid tributes along with district Padmashali sangham honorary president Vasala Ramesh, president Methuku Satyam, Kothapalli municipal chairman Rudra Raju and others participated in large numbers.
Speaking on this occasion, the leaders recollected the services of Konda Laxman Bapuji during the freedom struggle and against the Nizam rule. They said that Laxman was the first to raise the banner of revolt against the united Andhra Pradesh state government demanding the formation of separate Telangana state. He was the first Minister to quit Kasu Brahmananda Reddy government demanding Telangana state giving a fillip to the statehood movement.
They also said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was following the footsteps of Bapuji and achieved the Telangana state and striving to fulfill his dreams by taking up several welfare and developmental programmes in the state.
