KARIMNAGAR: Former MP Ponnam Prabhakar has demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao should fulfil his promise of sanctioning a government medical college in Karimnagar town.

On the occasion of completion of seven years to the promise made by the Chief Minister to sanction government medical college in Karimnagar town on August 5, Mr Prabhakar has written an open letter to Mr Chandrashekhar Rao on Wednesday appealing him to abide by his promise of sanctioning a medical college to Karimnagar town.

He said that the Chief Minister had sanctioned the medical colleges to Rajanna-Sircilla, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Kamareddy, Mancherial, Kothagudem, Siddipet, Sangareddy and other districts, which have not asked for it. Whereas, there was a huge demand for the medical college in Karimnagar town for the benefit of people to get proper medical assistance, but the government was reluctant to fulfil the promise, he stated.

Stating that he pressurised then Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for the sanctioning of medical college to Karimnagar town in the year 2012, he said that then Collector Smita Sabharwal had also allocated 20 acres of land for the medical college at the Satavahana University PG college grounds in the year 2013.

Reiterating that the Karimnagar district had upheld the Telangana statehood movement through thick and thin, he informed the Chief Minister to sanction the promised medical college immediately to Karimnagar town or else the people would not believe the TRS government.  He also stated that he had launched fast unto death programme for the cause of medical college in Karimnagar town, but in vain.
