KARIMNAGAR: The Karimnagar Three town police have registered a criminal case against senior IPS officer Dr RS Praveen Kumar, who announced voluntary retirement recently, and a government school teacher on the charges of promoting hatred and enmity between the religions.

According to Karimnagar Three town inspector P Damodar Reddy, they had registered an FIR 144/2021 under IPC sections 153-A, 295-A, 294 read with 43 and CrPC section 156 (3). Following the directions of the Karimnagar Court, the police have registered a case against the senior IPS officer.
BJP leader and advocate Bethi Mahender Reddy had lodged a complaint with the Karimnagar Three town police on March 15 after seeing the videos in social media of Mr Praveen Kumar giving provocative speeches which were hurting the Hindu sentiments and also taking a pledge hurting the Hindus along with government teacher N Shankar at Dhulikatta Buddhist site in Eligaid of Peddapalli district.
When the police failed to register a case, he approached the court, which delayed the judgement following the outbreak of the second wave of the Covid virus. On Wednesday, the court directed the police to register a criminal case and investigate. BJP leader Mahender Reddy demanded that the police should investigate the case impartially without doing any official favour to the police official.
