Karimnagar Mayor refutes Gone Prakash Rao allegations

Demands to prove allegations with evidence and lodge complaint to any investigating agency

What is wrong with conducting Kalotsavalu for the entertainment of the people of the town?

KARIMNAGAR, MAY 25, 2023: Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao has refuted the allegations made by former APSRTC chairman Gone Prakash Rao on the alleged irregularities and siphoning off Smart City works in the name of commissions.

“If he (Prakash Rao) has any doubts in the execution of Smart City works, he can lodge a complaint to any investigation agencies”, he pointed and flayed the former APSRTC chairman for making false and baseless allegations when they were executing the works in a transparent and accountable manner.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, the Mayor said that they were striving to fulfil the aspirations of the people, who have elected them to power. If we do anything wrong, they will teach a lesson in the elections, he said and informed Mr Prakash Rao to make allegations with evidence.

With regard to his allegations of constructing a palatial bungalow, the Mayor said that he had purchased the land in the year 2012 and sold away his old house and constructed the new house after securing the municipal permissions for 370 square yards of land. What is wrong if I keep ACs? Whether AC is a luxury item, he asked. Flaying the allegations that he had purchased a house for TS Planning board vice chairman B Vinod Kumar in Karimnagar town, he reminded that Mr Vinod Kumar was staying in a rented house and paying rent regularly.

However, the Mayor evaded a direct reply to the charges of collections from traders, business community and contractors for the conduct of Kalotsavalu during the last year’s Dasara festivities by using the police official. What is wrong with the conduct of Kalotsavalu for the entertainment of the people of the town, he questioned and added that they would also organise cultural programmes during the inauguration of the cable-stayed bridge in Karimnagar town very soon.

On the Smart City funds, he said that the works were taken up at of Rs 1,000 crore including Rs 500 crore state government share and Rs 500 crore central government share and added that they had not even made payments of Rs 400 crore so far. He also the state government had released orders for sanction of Rs 132.84 crore for taking up pending works including drains, roads and other works in Karimnagar town. BRS town president Challa Harishankar, municipal corporators and others were also present.
