KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 24, 2023: The political equations have completely changed in the Karimnagar Assembly segment with the joining of Bommakal Sarpanch Purumalla Srinivas into the Congress party fold in the presence of TPCC president A Revanth Reddy in New Delhi on Saturday.
Mr Srinivas, who was associated with the BRS, had resigned to the primary membership of the party on September 15, 2023. However, he had applied for the Congress party ticket from the Karimnagar assembly segment in the month of August 2023. Mr Srinivas, is banking on the strong support from the BC community (Munnuru Kapu) and others, especially the Minorities in the segment.
Following the allegations of encroachment of lands, the Karimnagar Rural police have opened a rowdy-sheet against Srinivas in the month of March this year. However, the issue was being circulated widely on the social media following his decision to join the Congress party and his popularity. It raised several doubts about why the issue of rowdy sheet was being circulated now in the wake of the elections round the corner by the BRS and Congress party leaders.
However, Mr Srinivas is confident of securing the party ticket from the Karimnagar assembly segment with the support of TPCC president Revanth Reddy. With the BRS using the BC (Munnuru Kapu) card from the Karimnagar Assembly segment by announcing the candidature of Gangula Kamalakar, the Congress party is also planning to play the same card in the elections taking advantage of the popularity of Srinivas in the segment and support from the minorities.
There are more than 15 aspirants, who had applied for the Congress party ticket from the Karimnagar assembly segment, including Purumalla Srinivas, My3 network Kotha Jaipal Reddy, former Minister MSR’s grandson M Rohith Rao, City Congress president K Narender Reddy, KCR’s niece Regulapati Ramya Rao and others. Incidentally, Kotha Jaipal Reddy remained a new entrant and not having much contacts with the leaders and people in the segment and making his moves judiciously even after joining the Congress party by not moving openly in the party activities.
Regulapati Ramya Rao is banking solely on only being the niece of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and nothing else and she had not participated in any party activities in the district. She has no contacts in the segment and mostly she camps in Hyderabad. MSR’s grandson Rohith Rao is having some contacts because of legacy of his grandfather, but still yet to attain the full-fledge capacity to compete with the ruling BRS candidate in the elections. City Congress president K Narender Reddy is active in the party by organising various programmes but still confined to Karimnagar town only and not visiting the rural areas.
Sources said that the party high command would finalise the candidate very soon, who would give tough fight to the ruling BRS candidate. The party sources said that the party would regroup all the aspirants of the party tickets to campaign for the officially announced candidate and ensure the victory of the party.
