Mr Singh had filed his nominations from Karimnagar MLC seat as an Independent candidate
KARIMNAGAR: As expected, former Karimnagar Mayor and senior TRS leader S Ravinder Singh has resigned to the primary membership of the TRS in protest against the denial of MLC ticket to him from the Karimnagar local authorities’ constituency on Thursday night.
In a strong-worded letter addressed to Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao, Mr Singh said that he was forced to resign to the party for which he had strived and struggled hard for the strengthening of the party and actively participated in the statehood movement.
Reminding that the Chief Minister himself had promised to allocate him with an MLC ticket because of his 25 years of experience in the local bodies, he said that the Chief Minister betrayed him and did not even give time to air his grievance. He said that the Chief Minister had allocated the MLC ticket to Swamy Goud at one stage, but he supported and strived for his victory expecting that he would get the party ticket in the next elections, but in vain.
Indirectly referring to Minister for Civil Supplies and BC Welfare Gangula Kamalakar, the former Mayor alleged that the party had been encouraging the Telangana traitors, who had never uttered a word of “Jai Telangana” during the statehood movement. There were several allegations including corruption charges against the so-called leaders who joined the party recently in the media, but the TRS party was shielding them and causing huge damage to the party, he stated.
He said that the TRS president during the statehood movement had respected and given due regards to the Telangana protagonists. But after attaining power and becoming the Chief Minister, he was neglecting the Telangana protagonists and encouraging only the traitors, he charged.
Realising that there was no place for the Telangana protagonists who crusade during the statehood movement, he has announced his resignation to the party, he stated in the letter. It may be recalled that Mr Singh, who was formally associated with the BJP, had joined the TRS during the statehood movement and was instrumental in the construction of the Telangana martyrs memorial, Telangana thalli statue in Karimnagar town.
As Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar, Mr Singh had won accolades for his innovative welfare schemes such as Re 1 a tap connection and Re 1 conduct of funeral of all sections of society. Incidentally, the state government had also adopted his novel scheme of Re 1 a tap connection in the entire Telangana state. Sources said that Mr Singh was planning to rejoin the BJP.
