General assembly supports Ukraine on humanitarian grounds

 

HYDEARBAD: The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) stands with the people of Ukraine, including the people who are fleeing the country following the relentless attacks by Russian force.

The ICA general assembly which was being organised at Seville in Spain and hosted by the Spanish Confederation of Worker Cooperatives (COCETA) under the caption of “Cooperatives – Moment is Now” from June 19 to 22. On Wednesday (June 22), across the globe all the countries representatives of cooperatives have extended support to the Ukraine on humanitarian grounds.

During the ICA general assembly, some people from Ukraine living in Spain visited Seville where the conference was being held. At this juncture, NAFSCOB chairman and International Cooperative Banking Association (ICBA) director Konduru Ravinder Rao and ICBA president and NAFSCOB MD Bhima Subramanyam took the initiatives to air their grievance before the general assembly.

Immediately, Gorokhovskyi , Chairman, Ukrainian Central Union of Consumer Cooperatives, made a detailed but emotional presentation on ‘Ukraine yesteryears and Ukraine Today’. Mariana Holynska, a senior executive assisted as an excellent interpreter.

All the countries showed sympathy and support to the plight of Ukraine people. They assured all assistance from the cooperatives in whatever manner possible.

The ICA, a non-political organisation, extended concern on humanitarian grounds and assured that cooperative were always in the forefront when such incidents occur across the globe. “We have shown our sympathy and solidarity to Ukraine. Our initiative helped them get support from across the world”, ICBA director Mr Ravinder Rao said.
