ICA decides to constitute eight sectoral organisations to strengthen cooperatives

KARIMNAGAR: The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) has taken a decision to add four more sectoral organizations making it a total of eight sectors for better functioning of the cooperatives in the world.

The ICA general assembly was being organised at Seville in Spain and hosted by the Spanish Confederation of Worker Cooperatives (COCETA) under the caption of “Cooepratives – Moment is Now” from June 19 to 22. On Tuesday (June 21), an exclusive sectoral meeting was organised on good practices in public policies for cooperatives in autonomous administration.

Presently, the ICA was having only four sectoral organizations viz Insurance, Housing, Fisheries and Forestry and Health. The meeting had discussed at length about the importance of including Agriculture, Cooperative Banking, Consumer Cooperatives and other sector.

The ICA general assembly had unanimously supported the constitution of a total of eight sectoral organisations and the necessary amendments would be made after the new board of directors assume charge. The meeting had discussed that the sectoral organisations would meet at least 10 days in advance before the ICA general assembly and discuss various issues and submit the same in the ICA general assembly for ratification etc.

Ariel Gaurco reelected as ICA president

The ICA general assembly conducted elections for the president. Three candidates contested the elections including the incumbent and sitting president Ariel Gaurco. Mr Ariel Gaurco won the elections.

In the elections to elect Board of directors of ICA, for 15 directors, 22 contestants had contested the elections. Indian Aditya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh and representing IFFCO was elected with a resounding majority in the elections.

Similarly, Chandrapal Singh Yadav, who is president ICA Asia Pacific and first Indian to occupy the post, was drafted onto to the board of ICA.

From India, NAFSCOB chairman Konduru Ravinder Rao, ICA Asia-Pacific president Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, IFFCO chairman Dileep Sanghani, NAFED chairman Bijender Singh, NAFSCOB managing director Bhima Subramanyam, TSCAB managing director N Muralidhar and others were also present.
