KARIMNAGAR: Hyderabad’s popular Balapur Ganesh Utsav committee laddu auction had fetched a whopping Rs 18.90 lakhs which was held on Sunday before the start of the Ganesh immersion procession in the Hyderabad city.

Andhra Pradesh state MLC Ramesh Yadav and Abacus Overseas Education private limited CEO Marri Shashank Reddy have bid the famous laddu for Rs 18.90 lakhs, which was an all-time high of the Ganesh utsav samithi. The 21-kilogram laddu is offered to the Lord Ganesh during the Ganesh chaturthi celebrations at the Balapur mandap. It is believed that the auction brings prosperity to the winner and is considered highly auspicious.

The Balapur Ganesh Utsav committee had first started the auction of the laddu offered to God during the festivities in the year 1994. The first auction was priced at Rs 450 in 1994 and it had increased to a whopping Rs 4500 in 1995. It crossed Rs 1.05 lakh mark in 2002, it was Rs 5.07 lakh in 2008 and touched Rs 10.32 lakhs in 2015.

In the year 2019, the laddu fetched Rs 17.60 lakhs and in the year 2020, the organisers did not conduct any auction due to the outbreak of the pandemic virus. In the year 2021, the laddu fetched Rs 18.90 lakhs, which is a record in the history of the Balapur laddu auction. Speaking on this occasion, MLC Yadav said that he had participated in the auction and purchased the Balapur laddu for the wellbeing of Telugu speaking states and added that he wanted to gift the laddu to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
