KARIMNAGAR: This is no garbage dumping yard. It is the Collectorate office premises, which houses several government offices in the heart of Karimnagar town which is called as the Smart City. Yes, you are right. Here the visitors are greeted with heaps of garbage which also emanates pungent smell.
Thanks to the lethargy on the part of the lower rung employees working in various departments in the Collectorate office premises, the garbage generated from various offices is dumped just in front of the main entrance premises causing nuisance and eyesore to the visitors. Similarly, the garbage is strewn around entire Collectorate office premises.
Though the municipal authorities had kept the garbage dins at various locations on the Collectorate office premises, the trash and garbage cleaned out of the offices is being dumped throughout the Collectorate premises, but not in the garbage dins. The condition is worse at the Collectorate auditorium where the organizers after conducting various meetings dump the waste material including paper tea-cups, biscuit packets, the left-over food, water bottles, paper-plates, etc adjacent to the auditorium and converting it into garbage dump yard.
Similarly, the strewn tea-cups and other waste materials are found near every office and in the open places of the Collectorate building. The stagnated water in the cups and other waste material is also converting it into safe place for the mosquitoes to breed and spread diseases.
Lok Satta udyama samstha Karimnagar district senior leader KS Narayana expressed concern over the Collectorate office premises turning into dump yard with the piling of heaps of garbage right in front of the main entrance and all round. Some two decades ago, the Collectorate office premises had won accolades for its spic and span, he said and flayed the authorities for destroying the office atmosphere with the negligent attitude.
Now, the Collectorate office is plagued with non-availability of drinking water facilities and toilets for the visitors. As there is no supervision by the administrative officer, it’s free for all in the Collectorate. Anyone can construct and dismantle the premises as per his whims and fancies and dump garbage everywhere. Especially, the revenue officials have attained dubious distinction in converting the tahsildar offices as per their wishes by converting the parking lots into the lawns and causing congestion of roads, he complained.
An official on condition of anonymity said that following the location of three mandals Karimnagar urban, Karimnagar rural and Kothapalli, which were carved out of Karimnagar mandal, on the same Collectorate premises instead of location in Kothapalli and Karimnagar rural villages had become a big nuisance. After the office hours, it is party time for the revenue officials, who stay till late hours, and dump the waste material in the open causing nuisance to the visitors, he stated.
