Harish Rao sets an example to discourage use of plastic in Siddipet

SIDDIPET: At a time when the country was grappling with the plastic menace, Minister for Finance T Harish Rao has set an example to educate the people to say no to plastic in their day-to-day life.

As part of a campaign of making a plastic-free Siddipet municipality, the Minister announced that he would attend any function in the municipality if the people conduct it without any use of plastic in the programme.

The Minister participated in the distribution of Food security cards to the beneficiaries in Siddipet town on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Municipal authorities have launched a campaign to make the town plastic-free. Accordingly, they had opened ‘Steel bank’ in each municipal division to provide the necessary material for the conduct of any functions at lesser rates and discourage plastic products.

Educating the people about the ill effects of plastic, he said that the use of plastic was causing cancer and other diseases. Appealing to the people to discourage the use of plastic, he urged the people to use only cloth bags and steel containers to store any food items instead of plastic. MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, MLC Farooq Hussain, Forest development corporation chairman V Prathap Reddy, Collector P Venkatram Reddy, Municipal chairperson Manjula, SUDA chairman Ravinder Reddy and others were also present.
