First cadet from Rukmapur Sainik school joins NDA in the flying branch

KARIMNAGAR: It is a proud moment to the Telangana social welfare residential Sainik school in Rukmapur in Karimnagar district as for the first time a cadet is joining the National Defence Academy (NDA).

Cadet P Ashok Sai from the TSWR Sainik school had set a new milestone as he has crossed several stages and obstacles in the UPSC examinations and got selected into the NDA Airforce wing and specialised in the Flying branch to become a pilot.

He had cleared the country’s toughest examination of all India UPSC written Examination. Faced five-day Services selection board (SSB) interview, computerised pilot selection system (CPSS) which is mandatory for joining the flying branch of the Indian Air Force (IAF), the medical standards, particularly which are required for pilots of warplanes with velocities of more than 2 Mach, the specialists doctors would examine eye, ENT, medical specialist, dentist, surgeon and dermatologist.

Colonel Ravindra Reddy, director of the TSSW Sainik School, Rukmapur, said that Cadet Ashok Sai had fulfilled the sole purpose of starting a Sainik school for the children of marginalised communities of Telangana state. The Sainik school was started in the year 2018-19 with Col Reddy, a retired Army officer, as its founder director.

Expressing happiness over achievement of the 17-year-old Cadet Ashok, he said that the achievement had boosted the morale of the staff and the cadets of the school to further work harder to get more laurels and selections. He said that Ashok was coming from poor family and he had worked hard to get selected.

Ashok Sai, whose father is a disabled person and mother works as tailor hailing from Hayathnagar in Hyderabad, said: “I could not believe that I have finally made it”. He said that his parents do not know what is NDA. He only told that he would join the defence service.

He also thanked the school director and his teachers who only taught them to believe in hardwork and there were no short-cuts to success. Our day in the school starts at 4 am and ends at 10.30 pm. There is daily physical fitness training for about two and half hours every day in the morning and evening, he stated.

TSWR educational institutions society Secretary Ronald Rose hoped that the maiden entry of cadet Ashok Sai into the NDA, the Sainik school, Rukmapur would start sending many more to join the NDA and serve the nation.
