KARIMNAGAR: As part of the weekly growth monitoring programme, Additional Collector (local bodies) Garima Agarwal informed pregnant women and young mothers about the need to consume nutritious food for the health and immunity of the infants.
The Additional Collector participated in the Poshan Abhiyaan programme at an Anganwadi centre in Peddapapaiahpalli village of Huzurabad mandal on Tuesday (September 20, 2022). Speaking on the occasion, Garima Agarwal instructed the womenfolk to take as many greens and leafy vegetables, cereals, grains and other nutritious foods as possible and stay completely away from junk food and also reduce their intake of oil and spices. She directed the family members to support in providing nutritious food to pregnant mothers and lactating mothers.
Directing the Anganwadi officials concerned to conduct to door to door survey and identify the malnourished women and take necessary measures by providing supplementary food, the Additional Collector informed them to take all measures to eradicate malnourishment and anaemia in the village. She also instructed the Anganwadi workers to regularly check the weight and height of the children below six years for ensuring their proper growth.
She also informed the villagers to utilise the services of the Anganwadi centre for the benefit of women, girls and infants. She visited the pre-primary school of the Anganwadi centre and expressed satisfaction over its maintenance. The officials have explained the pregnant women and lactating mothers the importance of breastfeeding to infants. DMHO Dr Zuveria, CDPO Bhagyalaxmi, upa-sarpanch Ravula Srinivas and others were also present.
