Congress leaders protests against collection of ACD charges from NPDCL consumers
PEDDAPALLI: The Manthani Congress leaders staged a massive dharna in Manthani town on Saturday (January 21, 2023) opposing the imposition of Additional Consumer Deposit (ACD) charges on the consumers of the Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL).
The Congress leaders led by Manthani legislator D Sridhar Babu demanded that the NPDCL should withdraw its decision to impose ACD charges on the consumers of electricity. They also submitted a memorandum to the local NPDCL engineer urging the NPDCL to stop the collection of ACD charges.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sridhar Babu said that the collection of ACD charges had come as a blow to the consumers of electricity. Stating that the NPDCL had collected developmental charges last year by stating that the consumers were using an additional load, he said that “people are confused as to who should pay the ACD charges when they take a house on rent – whether the owner or the tenant”.
The legislator demanded the government withdraw the proposal to collect the ACD unconditionally and threatened to intensify agitations. Mandal Congress president Seggam Rajesh, Congress Kisan cell state coordinator Sashibushan Kache, Congress leaders T Tirupathi Yadav, P Shiva, Thota Chandraiah, D Balaji and others were also present.
