KARIMNAGAR: Congress MLC T Jeevan Reddy has demanded that the government should open the procurement centres and purchase the paddy and maize crop from the farmers by providing minimum support price.
Stating that already the harvesting season had started the crops have started arriving into various markets, the MLC alleged that the traders were cheating the farmers by procuring the maize crop by paying only Rs 1500 per quintal when the MSP was Rs 1870 per quintal. He demanded the government to instructed the Markfed to take up procurement of maize produce from the farmers.
Accordingly, the Congress delegation lead by the MLC and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar and others met Additional Collector GV Shyam Prasad Lal in the Collectorate office complex in Karimnagar town on Saturday and submitted a memorandum. In the memorandum, the MLC said that the central and state government should take necessary measures for the procurement of the paddy produce by providing minimum support price.
Flaying the government to stop procurement of the boiled rice, he reminded that the farmers falling under the command of the irrigation projects cannot cultivate any other crops except for the paddy due to the moisture content and demanded the government to open procurement centres and purchase the paddy.
