Child marriage averted in Karimnagar

KARIMNAGAR:  The government officials and the civil society members, with their timely intervention, successfully prevented a child marriage at Kothagattu village in Shankarpatnam mandal on Monday.

Incidentally, in this case, the boy is a minor (20) and the girl major (19).

Following the information to Childline number 1098 about the child marriage in the village, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Sabitha Karra, Childline coordinator Sampath, supervisor Blandina, Anganwadi teachers others rushed to the spot and stopped the marriage by conducting the counselling of the parents and relatives.

They counselled the groom and bride and also their parents and ensured that they would perform the marriage only after attaining the legal age of marriage. They also educated them about the ill-effects of child marriages.
