Child marriage averted in Chigurumamidi mandal
KARIMNAGAR, NOVEMBER 05, 2023: The government officials and civil society with the timely intervention have successfully prevented a child marriage in Gangireddula colony of Bommana village in Chigurumamidi mandal on Sunday.
Following the information about the child marriage of a minor girl in the village, the Women and Child welfare officials along with Child Helpline officials and the police visited the village and counselled the family members of the minor girl. Educating the parents about the importance of performing the marriage only after attaining the age of 18 years for girl and 21 years for the boys, they even threatened to register criminal cases under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 if they resort to forcible child marriages.
People were also informed to alert the Child Helpline by dialing toll free number 1098 to check child marriages and others atrocities against the children. DCPO Shantha, Child Helpline 1098 coordination Sampath, supervisor Rajasri, Child helpline workers Mahesh and Priyanka, Anganwadi teacher Sunanda, police constable Srinivas, Home guard Devaiah, field assistant Satyam and others were also present.
