Adopt AI technology in mining sector to increase production and check pollution, says Navin Mittal

HYDERABAD: State Technical Education Commissioner Navin Mittal has stressed the need for the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the mining sector to increase production as well as check environmental pollution.
Adopting new technologies such as the AI should ensure that there was the development of the country and reduce accidents in the mining industry by minimising the environmental impact, he stated.
Participating in a two-day conference on ‘application of artificial intelligence in mining industries’ organising by the Alumni of the mining engineers association (Osmania and Kakatiya universities) in Hyderabad on Thursday, Mr Mittal said that the e-mail, cellular phones etc were using the AI technologies and freshly the mining industry had also adopted the AI technologies.
He hoped that Artificial intelligence would play a key role in the identification of the natural resources in the country and help in the progress of the country. He stressed the need for the use of AI technologies to reduce accidents in the underground mines and OCPs. Recollecting the telecom revolution, he said the AI would play a crucial role in the mining industry revolution in the country.
He also said that the Singareni Collieries Company Limited was making strides in coal production by adopting new technologies and reducing accidents. He informed the alumni and retired mining officials to focus on research in the modernisation of the mining industry without causing much harm to the environment.
Hailing the services of alumni of the Mining engineers association of the Osmania and Kakatiya for empowering the student community about the importance of the mining industry and the natural resources in the country, he congratulated the association for reintroducing the BTech (mining) engineering course in the Osmania University from this academic year. He also lauded the alumni association for providing all necessary inputs and upgrading the knowledge of mining students by organising seminars and conferences.
Committee convenor KJ Amarnath, NMDC former C&MD B Ramesh Kumar, MEAI Hyderabad chapter former chairman BR Sushil Kumar, NIT Rourkela mining department professors Singam Jayanth and Karthik spoke on various subjects at the conference. Alumni association president B Ramesh Kumar, MEAI vice chairman MS Venkataramaiah, Singareni advisor (mining) DN Prasad, MEAI secretary and Singareni Chief liaison officer and PRO B Mahesh, OU mining faculty Venkataramana and Satish Kumar were also present.
