KARIMNAGAR: Taking a cue from the concept of “Pidikedu biyyam” (a fistful of rice) to help the hungry persons by the women self-help groups long ago, the students of Chemistry department from SRR government arts and science college in Karimnagar town had launched ‘Akshaya patra” (vessel) to collect rice from the students, the teaching and non-teaching staff and donate the same to the orphanages.

The students with the support of the faculty members had installed a vessel (drum) and named it as ‘Akshaya Patra” to collect the donations of rice. Each student and faculty members bought fistful of rice and some even more quantity of rice and donated the same in the Akshaya Patra. Once the drum is filled with the rice, they would donate the same to the orphanages in the town.
