Dr Vijaya Lakshmi and Dr BN Rao wins IMA national awards for their services to society

KARIMNAGAR: Eminent and senior gynaecologist of Karimnagar district Dr M Vijaya Lakshmi and IMA Telangana state president elect Dr B N Rao has bagged Indian Medical Association (IMA) national awards which would be presented at IMA National Conference to be held in Patna in Bihar state on December 27 and 28.
Dr Vijaya Lakshmi bagged the IMA award for women for best social activity in the Telangana state. Dr Vijaya Lakshmi, who is popularly called ‘Amma’ by her patients treats patients and treats them free of cost every day from 6 pm to 8 pm on all working days at her nursing home in Karimnagar town.
Besides, she had won accolades for providing free medical assistance to pregnant women by conducting medical camps at various PHCs and urban health centres for the benefit of pregnant women under Pradhan Manthri Surakshith Matritva Abhiyaan (PMSMA). She had also accolades from the district administration by receiving the best doctor award from then Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed during the Republic Day celebrations in the year 2019.
The Awards would be presented at IMA NATCON-2021 by IMA national president Dr JA Jayalal, secretary Dr Jayesh Lele and others.
Similarly, Dr BN Rao had won the IMA best community service award. He had launched the Dr BN Rao health foundation and launched a special campaign to eradicate anaemia in the district by conducting special medical camps in schools and colleges. He had conducted medical camps and distributed medicines free of cost to the students. He had also won accolades for his social service programmes during the outbreak of the deadly pandemic virus by providing medical kits to the frontline warriors. He had also won an award from the district administration for his service to society.
