IMA Karimnagar chapter condemns the killing of a young doctor in Kerala

Condemning the attack on NIMS doctor in Hyderabad, the IMA also flays the government for the continuation of attacks on the medical fraternity

KARIMNAGAR, MAY 12, 2023: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Karimnagar chapter has strongly condemned the brutal murder of a junior doctor Vandana Das (23) of Azeezia medical college posted in Government Taluq headquarters hospital, Kottarakkara in Kollam district on Wednesday (May 10, 2023).

In a statement here on Friday, IMA district president Polasa Ramkiran said that the house surgeon Vandana Das was stabbed to death when she was providing medical treatment to an accused bought by the local police. The assailant, a school teacher, stabbed Dr Vandana Das multiple times with scissors after being taken into a room to dress his wound.

Expressing shock and grief over the incident, Dr Ramkiran demanded the government implement the central and state laws and measures to prevent violence against healthcare professionals at their workplaces. Stating that such acts would erode faith placed in the system by young doctors, he also condemned the attack on a resident doctor from the Nephrology department at NIMS, Hyderabad by the relatives of a patient on Thursday.

Demanding stern action against the persons involved in the attack on Dr Rahul at NIMS, he said that the government should take measures for enhanced security cover to be given to the medical professionals and stringent laws to prevent the spate of attacks on the fraternity.

IMA Karimnagar chapter secretary Dr Venkat Reddy said that the entire district medical fraternity had vociferously condemned the brutal killing of a doctor in Kerala. He said that the IMA would chalk out future courses of action demanding the government to provide security to the medical fraternity.
