Women doctors’ campaign for protection of girl child  

KARIMNAGAR: Women doctors associated with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Karimnagar chapter have extended their solidarity for the protection of the Girl child as part of the national girl child day on Tuesday (January 24, 2023).

Bothered over heart wrenching tales of discrimination against the newborn girl child, the IMA women doctors’ wing organised an awareness programme on the importance of protecting the girl child, who is the future of the country.

IMA district president Dr Ramkiran Polasa, secretary Dr Venkat Reddy, WDW Karimnagar district chairperson Dr B Jhansi Lakshmi, secretary Dr Sesha Shailaja and other office-bearers such as Dr Neelima, Dr Himabindu, Dr Ezhilarasi, Dr Greeshma, Dr Padmapriya, Dr Naveena, Dr Ratnamala and others participated in the programme at Telangana chowk in Karimnagar town on Tuesday night.

 Carrying placards, the doctors narrated to people the stories of how families disown a girl immediately after she is born, how nutrition or medical treatment is denied to a girl child, how woman have to keep getting pregnant four to five times just so that she can give birth to a boy, how health of women is affected and the financial implications of repeated pregnancies.
