JAGTIAL: On the occasion of National Service Scheme (NSS) foundation day, the NSS wing of Government Degree College for women in Jagtial town had organised a dental health camp for the benefit of students and faculty members on Friday.
The local dentist Dr Srinu Naik had organised the dental camp and provided medicines free of cost and also educated the students about the importance of dental health and gave tips for proper brushing of teeth etc. He also empowered the students about the importance of inoculation to protect them from the deadly virus.
College principal Y Satyanarayana said that the NSS volunteers were always at the forefront during any natural calamities and appealed to them to participate in social service programmes even during the pandemic situation and help the society. NSS programme officers Adepu Rajani, Padala Tirupathi and Madhukar Rao enlightened the students about the importance of the formation of NSS on September 24, 1969, by then Union Minister for Education VKRV Rao for helping develop leadership qualities among the student community and involve them in social service programmes for the upliftment of rural masses and villages through their programmes.
Stating that they had organised several social service programmes during the last five years, the NSS programme officers said that the girl students played an active role in participating in welfare programmes and adoption of villages and taking up cleaning programmes through shramdhan and plantation of saplings etc.
The NSS volunteers have pledged to rededicate themselves for the cause of society. They reiterated that they would continue the true spirit of NSS which says “Not me but you” and strive for the development of villages. Vice principal Mashroon Sultana, IQAC coordinator Harjith Kaur, health club coordinator Jyothilaxmi, faculty members Swaroopa Rani, Sai Madhukar, Satyam, Bharatha Laxmi, Veena, Thara and others were also present.
