KARIMNAGAR: Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Mahesh M Bhagawath terminated three police officials from service on the charges of “custodial death” of one Mariamma at Addagudur police station of Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district.
Addaguru SI Maheshwar, constables Rasheed and Janaiah were removed from service as per Article 311 (2) B 25 (2). It may be recalled that the Commissioner of Police on June 21 ordered the suspension of three police officers for negligence in handling an investigation allegedly leading to the ‘lockup death’ of a woman.
It is alleged that the station officers had beaten Mariamma and her son Udaykiran, who is undergoing treatment for caning injuries. Mariamma, belonging to the Scheduled Caste community and hailing from Chintakani of Khammam district, was working as a maid at a pastor’s house in Addagudur and later faced robbery charges.
The police in plainclothes whisked away Mariamma and her son Udaykiran on June 16 to Addagudur. They were subjected to cruel treatment in the police station. Later, Mariamma was tortured at a local police station in Khammam district on July 17. She was again shifted to Addagudur police station on July 18 where she collapsed and succumbed to the injuries in front of her son. Incidentally, no female police officers accompanied her or when she was kept at the police station overnight.
