Municipal Commissioner and five others arrested for abetment of suicide and dowry harassment

MANCHERIAL: The Mancherial police have arrested Mancherial Municipal Commissioner Balakrishna and five of his relatives on Wednesday on the charges of abatement to suicide, dowry harassment and domestic violence and other IPC sections for their alleged role in suicide of his wife Jyothi.

The Municipal Commissioner’s wife Jyothi (32) committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling in her apartment in Mancherial town on Tuesday. Jyothi’ mother Jayamma lodged a complaint against Bala Krishna alleging that he was harassing her daughter demanding additional dowry since last few years when he as the Nirmal Municipal Commissioner, the sources said.

Based on her complaint, a case was booked against Bala Krishna, his mother Kannamma, brother Harikrishna, sister Krishna Kumari, aunt Laxmi and relative Jyothi were taken into custody. The police seized Balakrishna’s and Jyothi’s cellular phones and remanded the accused for judicial custody.

Balakrishna, a native of Khammam district, earlier worked with the police department. Later, he wrote the TSPSC examination and got selected as Municipal commissioner he first worked in Nirmal and later in the Mancherial municipality.
