PEDDAPALLI: A 35-year-old person was allegedly brutally killed and chopped off into seven pieces and strewn in various parts of the coal belt region in Ramagundam to erase the evidence.
The NTPC police registered a man missing case on November 26 following the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother. On November 27, the police recovered the head and left hand of the victim and later altered the missing case into a murder case following the complaint by the victim’s mother who alleged an illicit relationship of her daughter-in-law with another person.
The NTPC police have cracked the case within a few days with the arrest of the accused a 28-year-old person, who was allegedly having an illicit relationship with the victim’s wife, along with paramour and seized two motorbikes, a cellular phone, two sharp knives and broken pieces of a liquor bottle.
Disclosing this to newsmen in NTPC police station in Ramagundam on Monday, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police Chandrashekhar Reddy said that victim Kampelli Shankar (35) was working as outsourcing staff at NTPC Dhanwantari hospital and his wife Hemalatha (31) as a nurse in the same hospital. Accused Poyila Raju (28) was working in the same hospital as a sweeper.
The accused lost his parents and secured employment on compassionate grounds as a sweeper in the hospital. He was earlier married to a woman belonging to Kundanapalli in 2014. However, she divorced due to his mental torture and harassment in 2016. In the meantime, he developed an illicit relationship with Hemalatha in the same hospital.
Victim Shankar had warned Hemalatha to mend her ways and had frequent quarrels over the issue. She used to share her woes with Raju in the hospital. He used to tell her that he would eliminate Shankar so that there would not be any problem with their illegal affair and lead a happy life. Accordingly, Raju secured two sharp knives from the market and concealed them in his quarters at NTPC temporary township.
On November 25 at around 10.30 pm, the victim Shankar called Raju over the phone and alleged that he was causing disturbances in their family life. At this juncture, the accused tried to convince and asked him to visit his quarters and host a liquor party. After some time, Raju attacked Shankar with a beer bottle on his head making him faint. Later, he killed the victim by slitting his throat.
Influenced by the popular crime thriller movies “Detective and Naa Peru Shiva”, the accused had decided to erase the pieces of evidence of the murder and accordingly cut the body into seven pieces and dumped them at separate places in the coal belt region. He also concealed the two-wheeler of Shankar.
He told the same to Hemalatha on November 26 by going to the hospital. Later, the police arrested him when he was escaping to Karimnagar on his motorcycle. They also nabbed Hemalatha on November 27 night. The case was detected under the supervision of Peddapalli DCP P Ravinder with Ramagundam, NTPC and Anthargaon police.
