Artist booked under SC\ST Atrocities Act for making satirical remarks on social media against Manakondur legislator Rasamayi

KARIMNAGAR, MAY 25, 2023:  A folk artist and formerly associated with Telangana Cultural council was booked under the sections of SC\ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and IT Act on the charges of making wild remarks against Manakondur legislator and Telangana state cultural council chairman Rasamayi Balakishan on Thursday.

Police sources said that the folk artist Oruganti Shekhar, who played a crucial role during the statehood movement with his songs and dance performances, was arrested by Manakonduru police following a complaint lodged by District SC\ST monitoring committee member Aluka Anjaneyulu, a resident of Renikunta village of Thimmapur mandal.

Anjaneyulu stated in a complaint that he had opened a Facebook account on his mobile phone on May 21 in Manakondur and found that the folk artist Oruganti Shekhar had made wild allegations and satirical comments against the Manakondur legislator Balakishan. He also alleged that Shekhar had written a song against Balakishan with satirical and objectionable remarks.

Oruganti Shekhar, who resides in Rekurthi in Karimnagar town, came out of his house on some studio work on Thursday morning. When his phone was switched off and not contacted by the family members, the artists had started searching for him. Later, they found to know that the Manakondur police have arrested Shekhar and produced before the court.
